I view my work with clients as a collaborative relationship led by the client, as they know their life better than anyone else! I use a person-centered and strength’s-based approach with each client through a multicultural feminist lens. I will often utilize psychoeducation to help clients build their mental health “toybox” with skills in mindfulness, thought tracking and reframing, and creative expression for the feelings and experiences words just can’t express. I specialize in working with those who have experienced interpersonal and systemic trauma, as well as those who are exploring their gender, sexual, and romantic identities. I have a significant amount of training in play therapy when working with children, adolescents, and adults, including Sandtray therapy (my personal favorite!).  I am a neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and sex work affirming counselor who believes in the power of play, education, compassion, and acceptance

Jeannetta Workman, LPC

My name is Jeannetta, and I'm a licensed professional counselor here at Journey!

I use a person-centered approach within the therapy space, and above all else aim to help my clients feel curious and open during their sessions. I have been a certified alcohol and drug counselor since 2020 and am passionate in aiding people in their recovery journeys in areas of mental health and substance use.

I enjoy working with a variety of mental health areas related to anxiety, depression, parenting, postpartum, LGBTQ+, and neurodivergence. I completed my Master's program in December 2025 and have been working in the mental health field since 2016. I endeavor to bring an air of laid back and openness to session and utilize humor where appropriate, while also able to utilize directness where needed. Modalities that I tend to use the most include: CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Jake Pearson is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University's counseling program, and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He received his M.S. in Counseling with concentrations in both Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling. Jake works with a wide range of ages and populations.

Jake has recently been trained in using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).  He is excited to begin utilizing his training to help his clients through big traumas, little traumas or just life situations that keep us from experiencing true joy and happiness. Jake uses a mostly person-centered approach, but also uses strength-based, Cognitive Behavior Therapy and trauma-informed interventions. He has experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, gender issues, autism, and is queer-affirming. His goal is to empower clients to be their purest and healthiest self,  while offering them support with their thought patterns, communication skills, and overall mental health.

Labhashree Shinde, BS 2026-2027 EIU Intern

I am a Clinical Psychology graduate student at Eastern Illinois University. I have a

strong interest in psychopathology and supporting individuals as they navigate life

transitions, identity development, and personal challenges. Originally from Mumbai, India, I

bring a multicultural perspective to my work, which informs my sensitivity to diverse client

backgrounds and experiences.

Through my academic training, I have developed skills in psychological assessment,

intake interviewing, and group processes, while also learning the importance of empathy,

cultural humility, and creating a safe space for clients to feel heard and understood. I am open

to working with a variety of therapeutic approaches to ensure that care is tailored to what best

supports each client.

Outside of academics, I am a trained Indian classical dancer, which has taught me

discipline, emotional expression, and the importance of mind–body connection. I also enjoy

being in social settings, connecting with people, traveling, and gaining new experiences, all

of which have strengthened my curiosity about different cultures and perspectives.
